About Tank Tactics

Tank Tactics is a turn-based squad combat game where you command three tanks against an equally-equipped AI enemy. Unlike arcade tank games where reflexes win, Tank Tactics is about positioning, terrain, and unit composition. Three tank classes (Scout, Battle, Siege) each play differently. Forest terrain reduces incoming damage. Rocks block both movement and line of sight. Each unit acts ONCE per turn — you can move and shoot, or just shoot, but you cannot do both twice. Master the rock-paper-scissors of unit roles and you’ll dominate the battlefield.

Three AI difficulty levels included.

How to Play Tank Tactics

  1. Select a tank by clicking one of your three blue/green-bordered tanks at the bottom of the map. Movement squares appear in blue; enemies in attack range appear in red.
  2. Move by clicking a blue square. Movement uses the tank’s move points (Scout: 5, Battle: 4, Siege: 3). Forest squares cost 2 move points instead of 1.
  3. Attack by clicking a red enemy. The shot deals the tank’s attack value (Scout: 2, Battle: 3, Siege: 5). Forest cover on the defender reduces damage by 25%.
  4. Each tank acts once per turn. An X appears over tanks that have already moved/fired this turn.
  5. End Turn when you’ve used all 3 tanks (or you can end early to skip remaining tanks).
  6. The enemy then moves all 3 of their tanks.
  7. Win by destroying all 3 enemy tanks. Lose if your squad is wiped out.

Tank Classes

  • Scout (green) — HP 6, ATK 2, Range 5, Move 5. Light reconnaissance tank. Long-range sniper that can dance in and out of cover. Glass cannon: one Siege shot at point blank can almost one-shot it.
  • Battle (blue) — HP 10, ATK 3, Range 3, Move 4. Balanced workhorse. Good HP, moderate attack, medium range. Your bread-and-butter unit.
  • Siege (red) — HP 15, ATK 5, Range 2, Move 3. Heavy artillery. Slow and short-ranged but absolutely devastating up close. Forest cover protects it well.

Strategy Tips

  • Use cover. Forest cells reduce incoming damage 25%. End each turn with at least one tank in forest.
  • Scouts harass. Use Scout’s range 5 to chip away at enemies before they can close. Move-shoot-retreat is the Scout’s job.
  • Siege guards your flanks. Don’t push a Siege deep — its move 3 means it can’t easily retreat. Use it to anchor a flank with cover.
  • Focus fire. Three tanks attacking one enemy is far better than three tanks attacking three enemies. Pick a target and pile on damage.
  • Watch the X. Enemy tanks that have acted can’t shoot back this turn. Move into their range with impunity, take the kill, retreat next turn.
  • Rocks block shots. If a rock is between you and an enemy, neither of you can shoot the other. Use this to safely reposition.
  • Kill weak enemies first. A wounded enemy is worth less than a fresh one. Finish the kill, then start chipping the next.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I move and shoot in the same turn?

Yes. After moving, if any enemy is in range, you can fire on them. The tank then becomes “acted” for that turn.

Can I shoot without moving?

Yes. Just click an enemy in range. Skipping the move is fine.

What does the X over a tank mean?

That tank has already acted this turn. It can’t move or shoot again until next turn.

How does forest cover work?

If the DEFENDING tank stands on forest, incoming damage is reduced by 25% (rounded). It does NOT affect attacks made FROM the forest — only attacks AT a tank in the forest.

What blocks line of sight?

Rocks. A shot from your tank to an enemy must have a clear line through cells — if a rock is between you, you can’t shoot. Other tanks (yours OR enemy) also block lines of sight.

How does the AI play?

Easy: prioritizes shooting any in-range target, moves randomly toward closest player. Medium: prefers low-HP targets to finish off, prefers cover. Hard: better positioning, focuses fire to maximize damage per turn.

Can I undo a move?

No. Each move is committed. Plan carefully before clicking.

Can I play on mobile?

Yes. Tap a tank to select, tap a destination or enemy to move/attack. The board scales to your screen.
